Celebrating the country’s 123rd Independence Day

Manila Heritage by Quiccs

Let us celebrate our Independence Day by highlighting the talents of Filipino Artists, the Culture and Creativity of the Filipino people.  This year marks 123rd year of the Philippines’ independence from Spanish rule.

In 2020, several Filipinos commemorated Independence Day online because of social distancing restrictions. Looking back at the past decades of our country, did you know that the Philippines originally celebrated Independence on July 4th, the same as the United States of America? This was changed, as former-president Diosdado Macapagal moved it from July 4 (1946) to June 12 (1898), considering the time that the Filipinos were starting to take back their own country and finally move on from the colonization of the Spaniards. It is a remarkable date to signify the strength and resilience of Filipinos, even nowadays during the pandemic.

A few days before the Philippines Independence Day, Art Toys PH in collaboration with Vinyl on Vinyl, hosted their first physical pop-up show in Makati, Philippines. The gallery show was entitled “Kalsada Toy Festival” featuring 28 talented artists from different parts of the Philippines. The Kalsada Toy Festival took place from June 7 to June 12, a perfect day to end the event’s auction as we finally enter the holiday.

Artists from different parts of the Philippines took part in showing how artistic Filipino’s can be. Not only by being good at singing or being hospitable but is also good at crafting and being creative by using things that can be seen around them.
